The Wednesday of their last week of school was the end of year awards ceremony. These are pictures from the day. 1st is her teachers...Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Hancock. There are technically 3 1st grade classes...Taylor, Hancock, and the dual language class. But the two teachers below co-taught both their classes together in one larger room. I think it was a really great room with lots of interest for Sydney. They have 2 lofts in the room that they can use during certain times to read...which Syd thought was pretty neat. It was spacious. They let you sit anywhere for your work as long as you were doing it. Sometimes the kids even sat on those big Yoga balls at their tables. Oh...and they DID yoga too...I'm still not sure if it was a daily thing or just sometimes...but there were pictures of it on their photo CD we bought. :) I guess I should ask Syd.
They also had two class pets. Ramona the dog and Farley the rabbit. We never did take Farley home with us for a weekend or Christmas break...but we could have if we wanted to. I didn't really wanna mess with a rabbit. Here's Ramona...
And here is Sydney during the Fall semester with Farley...wrapped up like a baby is how most pictures captured Farley when the kids were holding him. I wonder if that is how they were supposed to do it...or if that's just kids for ya!

Sydney with her awards. She was given the Super Saavy Scientist award as well as 3 100-book-club ribbons. She read 318 books this year! (Actually it was probably way more...but mom and dad failed to document many of them...as was our duty.) We had sheets to write each book that (at first) we read to them...then after they learned to read...the books they read to us. We would read 2-4 books a night sometimes! Once Syd figured it out...she was begging us to let her read to us. It's so awesome to see the light in their eyes when they REALLY know how to read. She's currently reading an american girl chapter book on her own that came with her Nikki doll from Mammo.
This is the dreaded conduct chart! Each child has their clip on the chart...and could go up or down during a typical day. These were marked in their daily folder that we had to sign each day. Sydney was mostly in the C-cooperation block...but found herself in the B-bothering block on occassion. We had several D-democracy days which means they helped a friend or were extra courteous/nice...but we did manage a few A-anarchy days. Overall we were proud of her!
Considering it was a NEW home, NEW town, NEW baby brother and NEW school this year...Sydney did exceptional. We were really proud of her.
